Hackley Girls Coding Club

Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 19 * Mondays * 5:30 – 6:30

Interested in computer science?  Join us as we learn the basics behind coding through CF First.  Ear virtual badges as you complete each activity and master new skills.  No registration is required, and we’ll have special treats at the first meeting!

 

Are you already an experienced coder?  We’ll work on more advanced projects with professional coders.  This club works best for grades 6-10.

 

Tips and Tricks for Phones and Tablets

Having trouble with your tablet? Flustered by your phone? Bring it to HPL on Wednesdays at 1:00 to get tech help. Walk-ins welcome.

 

Trail of Michigan Authors Book Fair

Oct. 6 * (Saturday) * 1:00 – 4:00

Forty plus local authors will be present at Barnes & Noble to meet, discuss and sign books.  The Friends of Hackley Library receive a percentage of all B & N sales (except gift cards) to continue programs at HPL.

 

Legos!

Dump our Lego bins and construct a whole new world!  All Lego creations go proudly on display in the Youth Services department.

 

Legal Rehab Band

Come hear acoustic classis folk/rock from the band Legal Rehab.  The combo has played at outdoor festivals, Hennessy’s Irish Pub, the Book Nook, Main Street, Unruly Brewing, and more.

 

Left to Write Creative Writing Group

2nd and 4th Wed of Each Month, 3:30 – 4:30

Do you enjoy creative writing?  Become a part of HPL’s own creative writing group.  Here you can share your own stories, participate in exercises and meet other creative writers in a low key atmosphere for writers of all experiences.  Everyone is welcome, so feel free to tell you friends!  Remember to bring paper and your favorite pen.

 

Retirement Reception

Excel:  A Computer Workshop for Adults

Get started using this powerful “number crunching” software.  De’ondra Pentecost will show you how use this helpful tool in a small hands-on Saturday workshop setting with lots of time for questions.  Sign up in advance to make sure there’s a seat saved for you.

 

Movies at the Library

Open Mic Night with Clayton Hardiman

Take your creativity to the mic!  Whether you want to read poetry, sing, play music or perform comedy, we want to hear you.  Perform or just come to listen to the local talent of Muskegon.  If you wish to perform, please register at hackleylibrary.org/events or by call the reference desk at 722-8011 but walk-ins are welcome.

 

Tech Tuesday

Reserve your 30 minute appointment to have your computer/tech questions answered by our in-house IT people. We will answer questions on using computers and apps-anything from how to navigate Windows to how to upload pictures to Facebook. Call 231-722-8012 at least 24 hours in advance to reserve your spot. By appointment only, walk-in spots will not be available.

 

Minecraft

We’ll have BLOCKS of fun at our monthly Minecraft event.  Registration is required and is open to the first 20 players.  Sign up online or over the phone 722-8014.  Ages 7-12.

 

Paranormal Hot Spots in West Michigan

Paranormal researchers from Grand Haven’s Gather Research and Stories of Paranormal Phenomena (G.R.A.S.P.P.) will present an enlightened discussion on West Michigan hot-spots of paranormal activity as well as what goes into a paranormal investigation.

 

Halloween Story Time

We’re spooking up some not-so-scary BOOks for a special Halloween story time and craft!  Costumes are strongly encouraged!  Ages 0-5 with a caretaker.

Grab a paintbrush and decorate a pumpkin of your very own!  Our pumpkins may be small but our ideas will be big!  All ages.  Bring your own pumpkin if you can.

 

Humans vs. Zombies

Oct. 30 * Tues. * 8:00

Brains!  The Zombie Apocalypse-style game of tag will be at the Hackley Public Library!  Human players must defend themselves against the infestation of zombies with dart blasters and socks.  16 years and up.  Limited to 50 players.  Check our HVZ website hvzsource.com/hackleypl/ for more information and to pre-register.
